Twisted Love talks about Alex Volkov, a ruthless billionaire haunted by his family’s murder, and Ava Chen, a free spirit who sees light in everyone. When he’s forced to protect her, their intense, forbidden connection ignites. But his secret quest for revenge threatens to destroy the only woman who’s ever melted his frozen heart.

Summary of Twisted Love

Twisted Love is a contemporary romance novel that follows the intense, tumultuous relationship between Ava Chen, a free-spirited and optimistic art student with a traumatic past, and Alex Volkov, a cold, ruthless, and brilliant businessman who is also her older brother’s best friend. The story explores themes of revenge, trauma, trust, and whether love can bloom from manipulation and deceit.

Main Characters

  • Ava Chen: A 22-year-old photography student. She is kind, empathetic, and sees the best in everyone, but is haunted by repressed childhood memories and a phobia of water stemming from a near-drowning incident. She is determined to be independent but struggles with feeling unloved.

  • Alex Volkov: A 26-year-old prodigy and the COO of a major real estate company. He is emotionally closed off, cold, and calculating. He possesses a genius-level IQ and a condition called HSAM (Highly Superior Autobiographical Memory), which forces him to relive every moment of his traumatic past, including the murder of his family.

  • Josh Chen: Ava’s overprotective older brother and Alex’s best friend. He is a charismatic med student who acts as a bridge between the two.

  • Jules, Stella, & Bridget: Ava’s loyal, close-knit group of college friends who provide support and comic relief.

Part 1: The Setup – A “Babysitting” Arrangement

The story begins when Josh Chen decides to leave for a year of medical volunteer work in Central America. Before he goes, he asks his best friend, Alex Volkov, to keep an eye on his “little sister,” Ava. Josh is worried because Ava is “too trusting” and recently broke up with her cheating ex-boyfriend, Liam, who has been harassing her. Alex reluctantly agrees.

To fulfill his promise, Alex moves into Josh’s house, which is right next door to Ava’s. Ava is furious at this perceived invasion of privacy and sees it as her brother treating her like a child. She and Alex have a hostile, bickering relationship. She calls him a cold, arrogant robot, while he dismisses her as naively optimistic, giving her the mocking nickname “Sunshine.”

Part 2: The Hidden Agenda – Revenge vs. Reality

As Alex and Ava are forced into close proximity, a slow-burn attraction begins to develop. However, a massive secret hangs over everything: Alex has a hidden agenda. He has spent sixteen years meticulously planning revenge against the man he believes ordered the murder of his parents and little sister. That man is Michael Chen—Ava and Josh’s father.

Alex reveals to the reader that his friendship with Josh was a calculated move to get close to their family. His agreement to “babysit” Ava is another step in his plan to destroy Michael Chen. He intends to use Ava to get the final piece of evidence he needs to ruin her father’s life.

Despite his intentions, Alex finds himself genuinely falling for Ava. He is disarmed by her unwavering kindness, her courage in facing her fears, and her ability to see past his icy exterior. Similarly, Ava starts to see cracks in his armor—moments of patience, protectiveness, and hidden warmth. They share their first real connection after she has a nightmare, and he stays with her, revealing his HSAM.

Part 3: Operation Emotion and a Forced Proximity Romance

Ava’s friends, led by the mischievous Jules, concoct a plan called “Operation Emotion” to try and provoke real feelings out of the seemingly unemotional Alex. While the “phases” (sadness, disgust, happiness, fear) are mostly humorous failures, they force Ava and Alex to spend more time together. The lines between his fake interest and real feelings blur completely.

The tension boils over when Alex finds Ava at a friend’s house for a boudoir photoshoot, wearing very little. In a rage of possessive jealousy, he deletes all the photos and physically carries her home. This raw display of emotion shocks both of them.

Their dynamic shifts dramatically at a charity gala when Alex sees another man dancing with Ava. He cuts in, and their dance is charged with an electric, undeniable chemistry. He shows his intense, jealous side, and she later confesses that she’s not afraid of his darkness. Soon after, they finally give in to their passion, and a secret, explosive physical relationship begins. Alex, who has strict rules about no kissing or face-to-face intimacy, breaks all of them for Ava.

Part 4: The Unraveling – Truth and Trauma

As their relationship deepens, the past comes crashing back. During a visit to her family’s home for Thanksgiving, Ava is triggered and begins to regain her repressed childhood memories. She realizes a horrifying truth: her mother didn’t try to drown her. It was her father, Michael, who pushed her into the lake. He had been gaslighting her for years, hiding the fact that she wasn’t his biological daughter (a result of an affair) and that he resented her for it.

With Alex’s help, Ava confronts Michael, who confesses to the attempted murder and emotional abuse. Meanwhile, Alex’s own revenge plot takes a shocking turn. He discovers the truth: his father’s business rival wasn’t the one who ordered the hit. It was his own uncle, Ivan, who was obsessed with Alex’s mother and killed his family out of jealousy and spite.

Part 5: The Climax – Betrayal and Kidnapping

Realizing he has been deceived for his entire life, Alex stages a corporate coup, ousting his uncle as CEO of their shared company. In a desperate final move, Ivan kidnaps Ava and her friend Bridget to force Alex to surrender his position and wealth.

To save Ava’s life, Alex must pretend to be the cold, manipulative man he once was. In front of Ivan and a horrified Ava, he confesses that their entire relationship was a lie—a means to an end to get close to her father for his revenge. He tells her she was just a pawn. The performance works, and his uncle lowers his guard. Alex kills Ivan and Ava’s kidnapper in a violent final confrontation. But the damage is done. Ava, believing Alex’s words were the truth, is heartbroken. He lets her go, convinced he is too dangerous for her to be with.

Part 6: The Resolution – Redemption and a New Beginning

The second half of the book deals with the aftermath. A depressed and hollow Ava moves away to London for a prestigious photography fellowship. Josh, who has learned the full truth, is furious and cuts Alex out of his life.

Alex, however, cannot stay away. He resigns as CEO and follows Ava to London. He doesn’t ask for forgiveness; instead, he works to earn it back day by day. He waits for her outside her classes, helps her with errands, and sends thoughtful gifts—not expensive ones, but meaningful ones that show he remembers every detail about her. He rebuilds her trust through consistent, patient action over a full year.

The final act of redemption occurs at Ava’s end-of-fellowship art exhibition. Alex, who has always refused to sing because it’s “too emotional,” gets on stage and performs a heartfelt song for her, publicly baring his soul. He confesses his love and his regrets. This act of vulnerability finally breaks through Ava’s walls.

They reunite. The epilogue shows them happy, healthy, and living together in Washington, D.C., with Alex having reclaimed his CEO position but with a new, better work-life balance centered around Ava. They spend Thanksgiving with his former Krav Maga instructor, finding peace in domestic life. The story ends on a hopeful note, with their love having survived betrayal, trauma, and the ultimate test of trust. The final pages also set up a sequel, Twisted Games, focusing on Bridget.

Note to Reader: This summary condenses the 43 chapters (plus prologue and epilogue) of Twisted Love into six thematic parts for clarity and readability. While every major plot point is covered here, the full novel contains additional character development, intimate scenes, secondary subplots (including Stella’s stalker, Booth’s departure, and the introduction of Rhys Larsen), and the alternating first-person perspectives of Ava and Alex that bring their emotional journeys to life. For the complete experience—including the bonus scene mentioned after the epilogue—reading the full book is highly recommended.
